Determined to know the
true position of salary payment of civil servants and pensioners in the state,
the Kogi State House of Assembly at the resumption of plenary sitting after a
six week vacation, the Kogi State House of assembly has summoned the Accountant
–General, Head of Service and Commissioner for Finance to appear before it with
comprehensive lists of cleared and unpaid civil servants.
The House resolution
followed the adoption of motion moved by Member representing Mopamuro Constituency,
Hon. Musa Jimoh Omiata calling on the state government to urgently make public
the details of the State and Local Governments civil servants that have been
cleared, pardoned and paid salary arrears from June 2015 till date.
Hon. Omiata said that there a lot of cries
from the people of the state that salaries of most civil servants have not been
paid and most of them claimed that they are being owned as much as 15 months
adding that others claimed that they were being paid on percentage.
According to him this
has pitched the political elites against the government and also pints the
government in a bad light pointing out that the need to know the true position
of the state in terms of payment of salaries to civil servants and pensioners
became imperative.
Seconding the motion,
member representing Ankpa, Hon.Alfa Momoh Rabiu said as elected
representatives of the people, the House felt the pulse of the civil servants
in the state and the issue of non- payment of salaries to cleared staff must be
addressed. Members in their various contributions stressed the need to invite
the Accountant-General, Head of Service and Commissioner for Finance to shed
more light on the true position of salary payment.
Meanwhile, the House
has passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker; Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam. The
House resolution came on the heels of rumours making the round on change in the
leadership of the House.

vote of confidence, member representing Mopamuro constituency, Hon. Abayomi
Sunday Pedro opined that from the time the Speaker took the oath of office, he
has been a rallying point and has won the hearts of all members with his good
leadership qualities.

Assembly which according to him was needles and has distracted it from
effective performance of its legislative duties.
