36-year-old Ghanaian prostitute confesse to killing 100 men in 8years

A 36-year-old Ghanaian prostitute has confessed to being responsible 
for the deaths of over 100 men who slept with her, while also rendering 
70 more impotent after a Nigerian lady introduced into prostitution. 

According to Katrine Obenewaa, her quest for money at a very tender age led her into prostitution.  

Explaining how she became a sex worker to Bryt FM’s Samuel Mprah, she
 revealed that a lack of support from her poor parents meant she had to 
find alternative ways to make money. This, she said forced her into 
prostitution, adding that she got more involved in the business after 
she met a Nigerian lady called Miss Elizabeth Opeyemi.  

“I was initially working as a local prostitute but later went 
international after coming into contact with one Miss Elizabeth Opeyemi,
 an international sex worker from Nigeria,” she revealed.  

She further narrated how this mysterious Nigerian woman enticed her to take her prostitution business outside Ghana.  

According to her, she started spreading her bounds to neighbouring countries like Benin, Togo and Burkina Faso.  

“My eight years of friendship with Miss Opeyemi was a great moment 
that saw me with billions of cedis. I was able to buy two separates 
six-bed room apartments from the monies I made through my sex business 
and now own a lot of other landed properties from this same sex 
business,” she said.  

Katrine continued to make money, however, her quest to create more wealth prompted her to go in for spiritual backup.  

She then decided to visit a spiritualist in order to make her 
business blossom the more, but little did she know that it would turn 
out for the worst.  

She narrates that she realised every man she slept with lost his life afterwards, prompting her to find out why it was so.  

However, to her surprise, the spiritualist told her it was the price 
she had to pay for her wealth while adding that it was irreversible.  

She confessed that over 100 men had already died, and 70 more were 
rendered impotent after sleeping with her before she eventually found 
out what the cause was.  

Katrine also said she's having a big regret over the whole situation,
  saying “though I have acquired the needed wealth one could desire for 
in life, am still not a happy person because of this predicament in my 
life”.

A special military court martial led by , AVM James Gbum has demoted 
Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Sani, one time Chief of Transformation and Innovation 
Centre of the Nigerian Army, to a Brigadier-General.   

 

Sani was demoted after the court convicted him on a five-count charge
 bordering on cheating. Sani had been standing trial in the court since 
2015 after he was accused of dividing and allocating part of army land 
to himself.   

 

The court also ordered the convict to return N23 million being the 
money he got after he sold the part of the army land to himself.  The 
court held that the convict fraudulently allocated to himself part of 
the land – 436 hectares, in Abuja and sold it.   

 

Counsel to Sani, Mr Paul Sule (SAN), said that he would appeal to the
 army council to quash the sentence.  Sule also said that should the 
council refuse to quash the sentence; he would approach the Court of 
Appeal to do that.</div>

Army Rescue Injured Boko Haram Terrorist

Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE in strict adherence to Rules of 
Engagement and international conventions on armed conflict, especially 
as it relates to prisoner of war, rescued a Boko Haram terrorist, Abba 
Mustapha, who was injured and abandoned to his fate by his colleagues, 
in the heat of heavy fire fight with Nigerian Army troops in one of the 
remote Forward Operating Bases in Ngala Local Government Area.

Abba was captured during a counter attack operation launched by the 
troops following an attack at their location. As narrated by Abba,  8 of
 his BHT colleagues were killed. Also recovered from the BHTs were 3 AK 
47 rifles, 2 AK 47 magazines, 2 FN rifle magazines and 3 PKM link belts.</div>

The surviving terrorist was full of joy and praises for his survival. He
 thanked the Nigerian Army for sparing his life and taking care of his 
wounds.</div>

According to the Limpopo crooner; “Exactly four years ago, I was on 
my way to Abia State for an event when I stopped by a community in Bende
 local government to visit a long-time friend and brother. We exchanged 
pleasantries and on my way out he told me about a certain foundation 
which he was using to provide free Nursery and Primary education to his 
people and we all went there. 
He continued; “On getting there, I was highly impressed and really 
inspired by such a kind gesture. Fast forward to 2017, a few weeks ago 
to be precise, he sent a message and video clip showing the first set of
 the primary schools pupils  that are graduating into secondary school 
and I decided I was going to support them with writing materials, band 
sets and all that but on getting to Igbere on Wednesday, after seeing 
how brilliant the kids were, I had no other option than to take up the 
responsibility of training the three best graduating students throughout
 their secondary school stage as my own little way of encouraging early 
education in our society.” 
He went on to preach about how we can make our various societies better 
places. “We all can always help in making our society a better place 
regardless of how small it is” he wrote. </div>

5 Police College recruits suspended

The authorities of the Nigerian Police College, Oji River in Enugu State have  suspended five recruits for indiscipline. 

The five are among the 966 fresh intakes of 2016 class currently 
undergoing training since Dec. 31, 2016 and expected to pass out in 
September. 

The Commandant of the college,  Mr Anthony Ogboji, made the 
disclosure in an address at the opening of a three-day Nigerian Police 
Force Human Rights Training Programme in  Oji River on Friday. 

Ogboji said that the recruits were drawn from the five states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo in South East zone. 

He said: “144 recruits out of the 966 were specialists and have 
successfully been trained, passed out and posted to various department 
and formations of the force where their skills are needed. 

“The officers attached to this college are doing their best to ensure
 we turn out well-trained, disciplined and seasoned police constables 
that can contain the enormous and dynamic police duty challenges in the 
society. 

“Therefore, five recruits who have been found wanting in discipline, are serving suspension.’’ 

The commandant expressed appreciation to the Enugu State Government 
for a grant of N10 million for the upgrade of infrastructure at the 
college. 

“When I was posted to the college I was scared seeing the level of infrastructural decay. 

“The college wrote to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi explaining the 
infrastructural decay and some needs of the college for which he 
graciously released the N10 million. 

“Today, recruits are no longer going to the bush to defecate. The 
female recruits are now bathing in the bathrooms inside their hotels and
 no longer in the open place. 

“There is light in the hostels now, soak-away pits constructed, doors
 and windows that were bad replaced and leaking roofs repaired and 
replaced,’’ he said.

 of Nigerian migrant girls brought to Italy were in great danger of 
being forced into prostitution in Europe.
 
The number of female Nigerians, many of them minors, often naive 
about their fate at the hands of traffickers, arrived by sea in Italy 
surged over the past three years from 1,454 in 2014 to 11,000 in 2016. 

The organisation’s spokesman, Flavio Di Giacomo, said at a news 
briefing in Geneva that some 4,000 Nigerian girls had arrived so far in 
2017. 

The UN agency had said that based on data collected at landing sites,
 it was estimated that 80 per cent of the girls were “potential victims”
 of trafficking as sex workers. 

According to Giacomo, the girls are often told the trip is free. 

“These girls, who are increasingly younger every year, are brought to Italy and to Europe for sexual exploitation. 

“They are taken by traffickers and then they are forced to be prostitutes in the streets in Italy. 

“And sometimes, as far as we know, these girls are also sent to other
 European countries such as Spain, Germany, France and Austria. 

“Many of the Nigerian girls are from poor families in Edo, who are 
psychologically manipulated during a voodoo ritual before leaving,’’ Di 
Giacomo said. 

According to him, they are accompanied by a madam-linked to the traffickers on the long journey through Niger and Libya. 

“The increasing number of minors arriving really do not have any idea even what prostitution is, what sex is. 

“But, many of them understand the real purpose of this journey 
because many times they are forced to prostitute themselves in Niger, in
 Libya especially, in brothels there. 

“So they understand they are not going to work as hairdressers. 

“IOM officials try to intercept the Nigerian girls at landing points 
and inform them about the prostitution ring and their right to 
protection,’’ Di Giacomo said. 

He said that the agency which had helped those who decided to flee 
the networks, reported the cases of 425 girls in 2016 to police. 

“A few days ago, we had the story of this young girl, a 17-year-old girl. 

“She has been told she was going to work at a hair salon; she didn’t 
have any idea she was going to be forced to prostitute herself. 

“It was only when she arrived she found out that it was not real. 

“The job was a lie and she was forced to become a prostitute, which was the only way to pay off the debt of the journey. 

“She was forced to be out on the streets for 12 hours a day.’’

The World Health Organiation (WHO) has warned that the spread of an 
HIV strain resistant to some of the most widely used medicines could 
undermine global progress in treating and preventing HIV infection if 
early and effective action is not taken. 

The Director-General of WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus, stated this in the ‘WHO HIV Drug Resistance Report 2017’. 

“Antimicrobial drug resistance is a growing challenge to global health and sustainable development. 

“We need to proactively address the rising levels of resistance to 
HIV drugs if we are to achieve the global target of ending AIDS by 
2030,” he said. 

According to him, in six of the 11 countries surveyed in Africa, Asia
 and Latin America, more than 10 per cent of people starting 
antiretroviral therapy had a strain that was resistant to some of the 
most widely used medicines. 

Once the threshold of 10 per cent has been reached, WHO recommends 
those countries to urgently review their HIV treatment programmes. 

HIV drug resistance develops when people do not adhere to a prescribed treatment plan, WHO warned. 

The UN health agency further warned that those with drug resistance 
would start to fail therapy and may also transmit drug-resistant viruses
 to others. 

Of the 36.7 million people living with HIV worldwide, 19.5 million 
people were accessing antiretroviral therapy as at 2016, it said. 

It added that the majority of these people were doing well, but that 
the number of those experiencing the consequences of drug resistance was
 growing. 

WHO further warned that “increasing HIV drug resistance trends could lead to more infections and deaths. 

“Mathematical modeling shows an additional 135,000 deaths and 105,000
 new infections could follow in the next five years if no action is 
taken, and HIV treatment costs could increase by an additional 650 
million dollars during this time”. 

According to Gottfried Hirnschall, Director of WHO’s HIV Department 
and Global Hepatitis Programme, “WHO is therefore issuing new guidelines
 to help countries address HIV drug resistance”. 

“When levels of HIV drug resistance become high, we recommend that 
countries shift to an alternative first-line therapy for those who are 
starting treatment,” Hirnschall warned.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has directed 
Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya 
Dole, Maiduguri, to capture Abubakar Shekau, self-styled leader of the 
Boko Haram sect, “dead or alive”. 

Buratai further directed the Theatre commander to do so within 40 days. 

A statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen.
 Sani Usman, on Friday night, said that Attahiru should “employ all 
arsenal at the disposal of the Theatre Command to smoke out Shekau 
wherever he is hiding in Nigeria.” 

“The general public is please requested to also assist and volunteer 
information that would lead to the accomplishment of this task,” Usman 
said. 

Previous reports that the terrorists’ leader had been killed in 
different operations have been rebuffed as he continued to churn out 
audio and video clips on the activities of the sect. 

Shekau, a Kanuri man, assumed leadership of Boko Haram when the founding father of sect, Mohammed Yusuf was killed in 2009. 

He was also first reported killed in 2009 but reappeared as the group leader less than a year later. 

The army in mid-August 2013 stated that he was fatally wounded when 
soldiers raided a base of Boko Haram in Sambisa forest and had died 
between 25 July and 3 August. 

However, a video in September 2013 was released in which a man purported to be Shekau claimed he had not been killed. 

The military also stated to have killed him during the 2014 Battle of Kodunga that lasted from September 12 to 14th. 

Nigerian government officials had also said that the original Shekau 
was long dead, but impostors keep popping up to perpetuate the myth that
 Shekau is unbeatable.

Clarion call: Oh Youths, shun politics of Money and of Stomach Infrastructure

When it comes to political activities in Nigeria, the youths are the ones, mostly lagging behind, yet they wins the battle for the gray hairs. 
When it comes for the issue of decision making in the society, the youths are no were to be found, why? 
 
As i move around every corner of this country, i see a lot of youths that are politically aware and active but when I try to engage them, I get ashamed because their awareness and activeness are like dogs that bark. Yes the youths bark like dogs in this country. And while barking, they make use of captions like "Not too young to rule", "Our Mumu Don Do",  and many others. 
Brotherly speaking, our Mumu Never Do at all. 
The Sad truth is this, we are too lazy for "our Mumu to Do". 
How can we say we have learnt a lot when Our actions and inaction Haven't changed? 
 
Can you continue doing one thing Repeatedly and expect a different Result? 
Some youths will say 'we shall wait till next election to vote in or out the ruling party', but most of this youths are just social media 'noise makers' who don't have PVC's or any intention of getting one. 
 
We've not heard anything from the past Governors,  past and present Senators and other political Office holders from Kogi state, but am very sure, in 2018, we will start hearing from them, because it will be "politically convinence" for them to do so.  And just like sheeps that is ready to be slaughter, we 'the so call youths' will sing and applaud them again and again, which will usher in another phase of political Rascality and Impunity we have always endured. 
 
And then we will start listening to them. The same old recycle politicians who never get tired of riding us like horses. We keep running to this same old Recycled politicians that pretend to have us at Heart and Never really do. We are so Hungry that we always gather round their Tables waiting for scrums and their leftovers, not minding them stealing us blind. 
Some youths will even say "NA their time,  make dem flex,  we sef go do our Own". 
And tomorrow such a person will come on social media and Hashtag 'my Mumu Don do'. 
 
This act of foolishness and being call a fool by this old Recycled politicians must stop. We are the youths. We are the pillar of this country. We must take our place. We must let these gray hair know that we are too powerful to distroy ourselves for them. And that we must be part of decision making process in this country. 
 
We are the future. We can not just allow this people to make use of our mights and allowed us to keep killing ourselves for them while their children are in the best private schools within and outside the country. 
We should look beyond our hunger, tribal sentiments,  political party and Family affiliations and vote people who are Nationalists,  people who believe that that "the Air we breath is Enough for Everyone one of Us". 
 
Youths should work the talk,  shun politics of Money,  Politics of Stomach Infrastructure and demand equal rights as Our leaders' Children because the Country can so afford everyone of us exactly just That.

Russia saves Syria, Iraq from destruction

Iraqi Vice President Nouri Maliki has praised Russia for the 
preservation of the entire Middle Eastern region from being destroyed by
 keeping its stance toward the Syrian and the Iraqi governments. 

“If it were not for Russia, the Syrian government would have fallen, 
followed by Baghdad, the map of the entire Middle Eastern region would 
have changed,” Iraqi Vice President Nouri Maliki told <a href="https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201707211055747153-russia-government-syria-iraq/">Sputnik.</a> 

“I have said this before and I will repeat it again – if it were not 
for the Russian stance, the region would be fully destroyed, its map 
would be new and unusual … Without Russia’s approach to the Syrian issue
 which differs from the one of the United States, the Syrian regime 
would have fallen, terrorists would have intensified their actions 
thanks to this, the regional map would change and in the end it would 
lead to the fall of Baghdad,” Maliki said. 

According to the official, he expected to meet during his visit to 
Russia with senior officials, including President Vladimir Putin, and to
 discuss supplies of Russian arms to the country. 

“My visit to Russia is coming up … During the visit I shall meet with
 senior officials including Putin, the foreign minister [Sergei Lavrov],
 the head of the Federation Council [Valentina Matvienko],” Maliki said. 

The Iraqi official added he would discuss the need for Russia’s role to increase in the country and the region. 

“I shall also discuss supplies of Russian arms to the Iraqi armed 
forces, we would like the Iraqi army to have Russian weapons as it uses 
it during training and is familiar with it,” Maliki said.</div>

Russia has successfully completed the first set of flight tests of its T-50, fifth-generation fighter jet. 

The Aerospace Forces Commander Viktor Bondarev confirmed the successful tests on Friday. 

“Today is a historic event — a preliminary conclusion has been signed
 at the MAKS airshow on the first stage of the flight trials of the T-50
 prototype. 

“We are now switching to the second stage of trials. We have also 
been recommended to start the manufacture of the plane’s pre-production 
batch,” Bondarev said. 

In an interview with <a href="https://sputniknews.com/russia/201707211055746797-t-50-pak-fa-video-maks/">Sputnik</a>,
 Dmitry Drozdenko, a military expert with Arsenal of the Motherland 
journal, said that he had been greatly impressed by what the T-50 PAK FA
 jet had demonstrated during the MAKS-2017 airshow. 

“This is indeed a groundbreaking event because we are the second 
country to start the serial production of fifth-generation fighters. 
What the T-50 demonstrated at the MAKS show, especially in terms of 
maneuverability, simply blows the mind!” Drozdenko shared. 

“I have seen the US F-22 at Farnborough air show in Britain and it was not even close to what I saw here,” he added. 

He also explained why Russia’s T-50 is better than its US counterpart, the F-22 Raptor. 

“The F-22 Raptor is the only foreign counterpart that can stand up to
 the T-50, but the T-50 is a newer design and is more technologically 
advanced,” Drozdenko said. 

“Well, the T-50 may have some flaws too that don’t meet the eye, 
maybe when it comes to on-board electronics. However, this is something 
we don’t know about the Americans either, do we?” the expert noted. 

The T-50 will also feature a “nervous system” designed to improve flighty safety. 

According to the system’s developer, the Russian Foundation for 
Advanced Research Projects (FPI), it is based on the principles of 
operation of living organisms’ nervous system. 

FPI presented a mock-up of the advanced PAK FA fighter, made of composite materials. 

The T-50 PAK FA (Perspective Airborne Complex of Front line Aviation)
 fighter jet was designed by the Russian Sukhoi aircraft manufacturer as
 part of a fifth-generation fighter program of the Russian Aerospace 
Forces. 

It is a single-seat, twin-engine multi role stealth fighter jet 
designed for air superiority and attack roles and equipped with advanced
 avionics system and airborne active phased array radar. 

It is to replace the Sukhoi Su-27 fighters, in service since 1985.

The Senator representing Anambra South in the upper legislative 
chamber has called for concerted effort to end the hunger in Nigeria. 

Uba, a governorship aspirant in the forth coming Anambra state 
election disclosed this when he dined with thousands of his people in 
Anambra at an event sponsored by the senator. 

With particular reference to Anambra state, Senator Uba said that 
economic hardship in the country has left many in the state hungry. 
Uba who recently picked his nomination form for the state Guber under
 the platform of the All Progressives Congress said that he would always
 identify with his people. 

He said that if he secured the mandate, he would ensure hunger is 
eradicated, not by feeding the people but by empowering the people to 
feed themselves. 

“I believe in helping my people and you cannot help a man if you do 
not know what his problems are and how he feels, that is why from time 
to time I come down to my people to take care of their well being. 

“There is so much hunger in the country, people are suffering. No money! No food! 

“It gives me joy to feed these thousands of people here today, it is my way of showing that I care. 

“If given the mandate to be their governor, my government will be a government that is based on the people,” he said. 
He promised to empower the people through skills acquisition and 
expansion of the economy of the state adding that the education system 
would be revamp to cater for all. 

Some of those who participated in the feeding programme thanked the governor-hopeful for his ‘usual’ gesture. 

Among those who were fed were children, students and persons living with disabilities.

Qatar amends law to boost fight against terrorism

Qatar has has amended its anti-terrorism laws in a royal decree issued on Thursday, to boost the fight against terrorism. 

The move appears aimed at countering charges by its neighbours that the Gulf Arab state supports terrorism. 

The move comes less than a week after Doha signed an accord with the 
United States to bolster measures aimed at curbing terrorism financing. 

Qatar has been under pressure from four Arab states, including Saudi 
Arabia, the United Arab and Egypt, over allegations it supports 
terrorism, a charge it denies. 

The decree issued by the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani amends a 2004 anti-terrorism law. 

The amendments set rules for defining terrorism, acts of terrorism, freezing funding and terrorism financing. 

According to <a href="http://in.reuters.com/article/saudi-decrees-idINKBN1A52KY">Reuters</a>, it also creates two national terrorism lists and set rules for listing individuals and groups on each list. 

Qatar has been struggling to dispel charges it supports terrorism 
since the four Arab countries imposed sanctions on it last month. 

Last week, Qatar signed an accord with the United States that 
provided for measures to work together to fight terrorism financing. 
Details of the accord had not been released but sources said it provides
 for the United States to post officials at Qatar’s state prosecutor’s

As part of efforts to assist displaced persons, Tuface Foundation is 
organising a fund raising charity concert to support the activities of 
the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in the North-East. 

Musical icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as Tuface, made this known while briefing journalists on Thursday in Abuja. 

Tuface said that the concert would take place on Sunday at Transcorp 
Hilton, Hotel, Abuja, and urged Nigerians to support the cause. 

He said that 60 per cent of the proceeds would be donated to UNHCR to support its interventions in the North-East. 

According to him, the humanitarian challenges in the North-East are enormous and a big task for the UNHCR. 

He said that he had pledged his commitment to support the UNHCR in alleviating the plight of displaced persons. 

The assistance, he said, would not be limited to the Internally 
Displaced Persons (IDPs) but also to Nigerian refugees in other 
countries, who are victims of the Book Haram insurgency. 

The singer urged Nigerians to support the cause by attending the 
concert and by downloading his newly released song dedicated to the 
displaced persons as their ring and caller back tones. 

“I am very proud to support the UN Refugee Agency at the forefront of the displacement emergencies. 

“Who will support our brothers and sisters, if we don’t? 

“I care deeply about the IDPs and refugees cause and I promised in February to hold this charity concert and this is happening. 

“I am dedicating my music and talent to this noble cause and I 
challenge everybody to do the same; let us make Africa great again.” 

Tuface said that visiting the North-East seeing things for himself, 
further made him to know the true situation in the region, which a lot 
of people were not aware of. 

He commended UNHCR for its transparency and judicious use of resources for its interventions. 

He also urged the government to do more in assisting the IDPs and to 
ensure that peace and normalcy returned to the region in due time. 

Mr Jose-Anthonio Canhandula, UNHCR Representative to Nigeria, thanked
 Tuface for supporting the Agency’s intervention in the North-East. 

Canhandula was represented by Mr Hollo Roger, UNHCR’s Senior Liaison 
Officer to the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) 
Commission. 

He said that with the global displacement figure reaching over 65 
million, the needs were enormous while funding contributions were 
inadequate for the actual requirement. 

“Unless we combine forces with the powerful voices of Tubaba and others, the begging bowls of alms will remain with us. 

“In the light of the huge funding needs, Africa’s private sector can 
be key in by supporting UNHCR’s efforts towards refugees and displaced 
persons. 

“The resources that this concert can raise will help ensure that 
displaced families are provided with shelter, water, health, education 
and other essentials, ‘’ Canhandula said. 

The reports is that in February, the Tuface
 Foundation made the first donation of N3.5 million to UNHCR and 
promised to do a new song in honour of the refugees and IDPs. 

The song was released on June 20 in commemoration of the 2017 World Refugees Day. 

He further promised that 60 per cent of the proceeds would be donated to UNHCR to support its interventions in the North-East. 

The reports is that the concert, dubbed 
“Eargasm”, will feature other artists with tickets to be sold for the 
highest table at N3 million and the lowest for N50,000.

The African Nations Cup will be moved to June and July and the size 
of the competition will grow from 16 to 24 finalists from the next 
edition in 2019. 

These decisions were made by the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) executive committee on Thursday. 

Radical changes to Africa’s leading competitions were formalised as CAF’s executive committee met in Rabat . 

The committee adopted recommendations made at a wide-ranging symposium in Morocco earlier in the week. 

Other decisions taken at the meeting included the awarding of the 
2021 and 2023 Nations Cups to the Ivory Coast and Guinea respectively. 

Major changes have also been introduced to Africa’s Champions League 
and Confederation Cup tournaments, which will now run from August to 
May, like the UEFA Champions League, rather than over the course of a 
calendar year. 

This week’s symposium was called by new CAF president Ahmad and was aimed at overhauling the game in Africa. 

CAF hold a congress in Rabat on Friday to pass changes to the body’s 
statutes in order to bring it in line with recent FIFA changes. 

The expansion of the Nations Cup puts pressure on 2019 hosts 
Cameroon, who have denied claims that they are behind in their 
preparations. 

“I would like to reassure the national and international opinion that
 the government is fully committed to fulfilling the CAF’s 
specifications and to date, no CAF mission has reported any delay in 
preparations,” said Cameroon sports minister Ismael Bidoung. 

African football chiefs are due to inspect Cameroon’s tournament 
preparation in September, with Morocco on stand-by as a potential 
back-up host if needed. 

“Morocco will not hesitate for a second to respond favourably to any 
invitation to host this Nations Cup,” said their football association 
president Faouzi Lekjaa when asked.

Dear comrades, on Thursday 13th July 2017, ASUU-KSU Congress met with the zonal coordinator, Nsukka zone in attendance. The Congress resolved among other things to have a joint meeting between the university management, council chairman and the zonal leadership in order to chart a way forward in the logjam arising from the strike action embarked by ASUU-KSU since 3rd February 2017. 
 This resolution was communicated to the vice chancellor of the Kogi State University, Anyigba who later contacted the zonal coordinator and fixed a meeting for Tuesday 18th July 2017 by 11:00am. The vice chancellor shifted the meeting to Wednesday 19th 2017at the instance of the chairman of the council. At about 4:00am on Tuesday 18th 2017, the chairman of council personally called the zonal coordinator, Nsukka zone and pleaded that the meeting be further shifted to Thursday 20th 2017 at 10: 00am. It was while I was on my way to Anyigba for the meeting yesterday that I got the shocking information of the despotic and illegal act of the Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello allegedly proscribing ASUU- KSU, Anyigba. 
 The question is, is Yahaya Bello in any position legally capable of proscribing ASUU- KSU, Anyigba? The answer is NO. The issue of industrial relations is essentially an aspect of labour law. Under scheduled ii, part I, labour matters are listed as item 34 on the exclusive legislative list - the implications of this coupled with the provisions of section 4 of the constitution of federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), only the National Assembly can validly make law or any pronouncement on labour matters. We take our bearing from the provisions of the constitution because it is the fundamental law of the country. In other words, the CFRN, 1999 is the supreme law of the land. Thus any law or any act by anybody no matter how highly placed which is inconsistent with it's provisions is to the extent of the inconsistency null and void (see section 1(3) of the CRFN,1999.). 
 By section 40 of the constitution, "every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, Trade Union or any other association for the protection of interests." 
 ASUU, as a Trade Union of academics in Nigerian universities is a body of intellectuals that cannot be allegedly proscribed on the pages of newspaper or other social media. The action of Mr Yahaya Bello of allegedly proscribing ASSU-KSU, Anyigba therefore smacked off ignorance of the position of law and brings to fore the question of whether he has the mental capacity and the needed leadership quality or ability to lead the state as a governor. Mr Yahaya Bello is not alone in this dastardly obnoxious, primitive and draconian act. He is doing it in conjunction with the monsters and demons within the university system- in this case Kogi State University Anyigba . if not, how do you explain the attitude of the Vice -Chancellor and other principal officials of the University and the Pro-Chancellor and chairman of the governing council, who are all professors in the University but could not advice the dictator about the nature of autonomy and the workings of a university system? 
 ASUU, as a trade Union with several members, have every right to agitate and struggle for the protection of the interest and welfare of its members especially in a democratic setting; it is thus unfortunate that though ASUU remains a viable and formidable union in Nigeria, most of her members including professors, PhD holders, and even the graduate students occupying various positions in our citadels have in one way or another contributed to the weakening, dismantling and even the alleged proscription of the ASSU-KSU, Anyigba. Prosperity will judge us all. 
THE WAY FORWARD 
 In the light of the above, ASSU-KSU, Anyigba members should abide by the following until further directive from National Executive Council (NEC): 
1. Remain calm, as the threat of the adolescent Governor of kogi state amounts to empty noise and nothing else. Mr Yahaya Bello has no power to proscribe ASUU-KSU, Anyigba. 
2. Remain strong, united and resolute in the face of this empty threat as your employment is regulated by statues and cannot be vitiated by mere pronouncement of an adolescent tout who assumed the position of Governor accidentally. 
3. NEC is holding on the 22nd and 23rd of July, 2017 and will address this ugly development, using all legal means possible. 
 
4. No member of the ASUU -KSU, Anyigba should resume duty as the strike is still inforce. 
5. All members of the Union should stay away from the University until further directive from NEC. 
6. Nobody should sign any register, as you will be doing so at your own peril. 
7. Remember, united we bargain and divided we beg.

 unnamed smoked fish seller was on Wednesday evening, July 19, beaten to
 coma at Mission Road axis, Benin City, by boys engaged by Governor 
Obaseki to curb street trading in Edo State. 

According to a report by Edoko Wilson, every evening from 5pm, these 
men usually round up traders, take them to Oba Market Police Station, 
where they demand money before releasing the victim. 

"The so called Obaseki boys as they are fondly referred to get 
settled on a daily basis and failure to do so these helpless sellers are
 arrested and left to sleep in the cell so as to appear before the 
mobile court the following day, whoever pays the sum of between N15k to 
N30k gets released. If i may ask, how is their wares worth?" he said.

APC in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of 
brainwashing the people of the state on the new payment of Paris Club 
Refund of N4.7bn. 

 

The APC referred to the various meeting being held by the governor 
with workers and stakeholders as a “ploy to deceive the people”.   

 

In a statement by the Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the 
party said that Ekiti people are no longer deceived by the governor’s 
antics in always calling workers and other stakeholders to meetings to 
brainwash them on the state’s financial matters, stressing that such 
practice is a worn-out tactic to “fraudulently deny workers their 
salaries and con Ekiti people for selfish motives”. 

 

The statement reads, 'the governor started his latest trick when he 
called Labour leaders to a meeting last month that Paris Club refund 
coming to the state would be N4.7b just to create the impression that he
 is running a transparent administration. We are aware that after 
collecting the money, he has started calling another round of meetings 
saying that  N4.7b Paris Club refund will not be enough to pay one month
 salary barely a month after he confessed that the actual Ekiti monthly 
wage bill is N1.7b and several months after he consistently lied that 
the state’s wage bill was N2.6b.”   

 

He continued to say “the man that says he loves the people relies on 
lies to cheat the people while not compromising his own private comfort.
 Since the Paris Club and bailout issues became major sources of the 
state finances, Fayose is no longer talking about the state’s monthly 
statutory allocations of N1.9b and another monthly N1.3b Budget Support 
Facility he has taken for 11 months but which he diverted to purposes 
through which he can make personal gains.  Up till this moment, Fayose 
has refused to make public the state internally generated revenue (IGR) 
profile, which stood at N600m monthly during Kayode Fayemi’s 
administration before the governor (Fayose) increased rates and taxes 
paid by Ekiti people, including introducing fresh ones.  Even though we 
don’t know IGR figures, we wonder how a governor that rakes in N7.9b in a
 month through Paris Club N4.7b, Budget Support Facility of N1.3 and 
N1.9b in statutory allocation could be so callous to declare that the 
money he has won’t be able to pay one month salary at the time his 
counterparts in the neighbouring states are promising their workers to 
pay three months salaries with the current Paris Club refund' 

 

“We wonder why a governor that is daily sacking workers while not 
employing fresh hands in the civil service would be so callous and 
mindless in his declaration that N7.9b, excluding the unknown IGR, will 
not be enough to pay one monthly salary. We know for a fact that so far,
 all bailouts and budget support facility cash that Fayose has taken 
were diverted to the flyover and new Oja Oba Market projects awarded to 
his Ibadan friends for selfish purposes, but like we warned last time, 
APC will play its role as a responsible opposition party to resist fraud
 and oppression in the interest of Ekiti people.   

 

“It is on this note that as Governor Fayose is busy in his selfish 
and wicked manipulation of the people to short-change the state, we 
hereby reinstate our resolve to resort to the courts and street 
protests, which are lawful means of rejecting fraudulent and oppressive 
conducts of leaders, to ensure that Ekiti people get their share of the 
state’s wealth.”
