According to LIB, the Kwara State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an Ilorin based-Islamic cleric who allegedly exhumed the corpse of his late friend for ritual on Tuesday, August 1, seven days after his death.
It was gathered that residents of the community embarked on a search when the odour of a decomposing body permeated the area.
The search team later traced the odour to the apartment of the cleric located at Eleran, in Oloje area of Ilorin. They broke down the door and discovered the decomposing corpse said to be that of Sulaiman.
According to sources, the deceased went out with the cleric last Wednesday and had complained of stomach ache not long after they returned. He reportedly died in a hospital the following day and was buried the same day in accordance with Islamic rite.
The suspect was said to have escaped through a back door when he heard that members of the community were tracing the source of the odour.
The irate mob demolished the building belonging to the family of the suspect and beat up his father handing him over to the police.
Spokesperson for the police command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident said investigation was ongoing on the matter.
Okasanmi also said some objects suspected to be human parts were recovered from the building before it was demolished by the irate members of the community.
