There were two rabbits
Caught whilst on the field
By a hunter's trap
At night
By sunlight
The hunter
Freed them into his cage
Whilst in the cage
The rabbits wailed
And panted
If you had listened
When I shouted at you
To forget about me
And leave,
we wouldn't have ended
Up here together
In this cage, Said the Buck
But you were trapped
I thought I could rescue you
There was no way I could have
Left you
Said the Doe
I know you did what you
Thought best
And now in the hunter's
Soup pot shall we end up
Tonight
Said the Buck
And let it be told
By the hunter
How we both ended up
Caught up in death
For love's sake
Said the Doe
And so
The two rabbits
Remained trapped
In the cage
'Til death bade them
Apart as food for the hunter
