You think Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the best footballers in the world? Then you share a different view from Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, who rates France playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa as a bigger talent. Sakho, who got the leveller in Liverpool’s sensational comeback against Borussia Dortmund in Thursday’s crackerjack quarterfinal at Anfield, thinks Ben Arfa is the most ‘exceptional’ talent he’s seen on a football field.
Ben Arfa has caught the eye in France this season thanks to his stunning displays for Nice, with his return to form bringing calls for him to be recalled to the national side for Euro 2016, and Sakho couldn’t agree more. “I’ve played against Messi and Ronaldo, maybe they were not in their best form against me, but the opponents who has impressed me more was Hatem Ben Arfa at Lyon,” the former Paris Saint-Germain defender told BeIN Sport. “What he can do on the field is exceptional.”
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old defender says France have an eye on the trophy in the summer. “The Euros will be very exciting – we’re not going just to play. We want the trophy to stay in France…we have players who are ready to sacrifice themselves for the team.”
